Keith Jansz Exhibition 16 May 2017

Fletcher Day are proud to be hosting an exhibition of the paintings of Keith Jansz on 16th May 2017 at our office on the 7th Floor.

“Keith Jansz took up the challenge when he became tetraplegic.  He had lost the use of his hands and legs in a tragic road accident in 1995, and was paralysed from the neck down.  He turned to painting, with the added challenge of painting with his mouth not his hands. To begin with Keith needed help, encouragement and inspiration, and he received these from fellow artists in the Mouth & Foot Painting Artists.  An active sportsman before his accident Keith knew what it was to push himself to his limits and this he now did with his painting, soon holding exhibitions of his work which attracted great interest and admiration. Keith’s work is full of light and colour.  Above all else it is full of joy.” (Professor Ken Howard, OBE, of the RA).

Keith will be raising funds for the Back up Trust, a charity that specialises in assisting people with serious spinal injury http://www.backuptrust.org.uk/home

In Keith’s own words ‘I love to feel my brush dance across the canvas and give back to me the sensation of movement which my body now lacks. I am delighted to have the opportunity to show my work at Fletcher Day, and to be raising funds and awareness for the Back up Trust.  Before my accident I was involved in numerous sports, particularly skiing and sailing, and I was given the confidence to throw myself back into these activities by Back Up, something it would have been impossible to contemplate during the early dark days after my injury.  I have skied in Sweden and sailed in the Lake District with Back Up, although, of course, I would have loved to have had my paints with me in such beautiful and inspiring locations….. “

“In the paintings I am exhibiting at Fletcher Day I have selected images of London and of some of the sports promoted by Back Up.  In both subjects I hope to convey the excitement I feel from trying to capture the nuances of light, the reflections in puddles after the rain, the recognisable shapes of distant figures walking towards me.  Before 1995, when life forever more changed in a split second, I don’t think that I really saw the world around me.  I had no time to appreciate the changes in nature but now it is my entire focus. Excitement about painting is the key.  Real enthusiasm comes from the heart and ignites the whole system. I hope that my enthusiasm for life and my art is conveyed to you through my work.’
